My most recent piece: I wrote about Kam Chancellor’s return for Seattle Weekly. My take on this is that Chancellor isn’t the biggest problem with the Hawks, their offensive line is. Not sure whether I was proved right after the Chancellor-led D shut out Chicago!
I’m reading The Indian Slave Trade: The Rise of the English Empire in the American South, 1670-1717. Have been reading a lot recently about the colonial South, a part of U.S. history I’d largely neglected. The author of this book, Alan Gallay, does an excellent job of exploring the motivations of all the actors (the English colonists, English proprietors, Spanish missionaries, French colonists, and various Indian tribes like the Westoes and the Creeks) as they experienced them in the moment—not lumping them all together in one “march to a logical conclusion” type of narrative.
